One and Only Ocean Club, Paradise Island | Wedding at the Cloisters

It's amazing to me how quickly you can become friends with someone and feel like you have know them forever. From the moment I meant this couple at the cruise ship I knew it was going to be a good day. Their personalities were fun and real and their love for each other was beautiful and evident.

I took them to the Cloisters to do portraits and we had planned to continue to the beach for their short wedding ceremony. Upon arriving and seeing how beautiful the Cloisters are they decided it was the perfect location to say their vows. Being from Colorado they have the option to do a self solemnization ceremony which made everything a lot simpler!

I hope I will always remember what it felt like to be the sole witness to their wedding ceremony. Their heartfelt vows with infectious laughter mixed in was epic. I was tearing up behind the camera as I documented everything.  Thank you for letting me play a little part in such great event! I am definitely looking you guys up next time I'm in Colorado!

Paradise Island, Bahamas | Rainy Day Honeymoon Portraits

Sometimes a rainy day doesn't ruin everything. Since this young bride is also a photographer we planned this shoot together carefully. Wanting to take advantage of some gorgeous, early morning Bahamian sunshine we all woke up early only to find a windy, rainy day. We were pretty disappointed. After a couple of hours of waiting the wind died down some and the rain stopped... we decided it was our perfect opportunity and I am delighted with the results.

Seriously, photographing two people in love is so easy! This session was pure enjoyment from beginning to end. I love my job!

Nassau, Bahamas Children Photographer | One year old portraits

Taking pictures of this little man was the highlight of my week. Seriously. There are few things more fun to me than crawling all over the floor and playing with a child with the goal of capturing their personality with my camera.

We were also able to make a playdate out of this portrait shoot. My son, Cody, is 3 months older and they've been friends from the time they were little babies.

I love his dark hair and dark eyes. Such a handsome little man. Quite the contrast to my blue-eyed, blonde baby. These boys go way back. These next photos were taken almost exactly a year ago.

And look at them now!

I am looking forward to watching these boys grow up together.

Paradise Island, Bahamas | The One and Only Ocean Club | Family Portraits

This past Monday didn't quite start out the way I had thought it was going to. I was just deciding what I was going to accomplish when I got a phone call. Donna and her sister and niece were staying at the One and Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island  and were leaving the next day. They really wanted to get some portraits done before they headed back to the US and were delighted to find out that I didn’t have anything scheduled for the day.

As you can see The One and Only Ocean Club has a beautiful setting. The palm trees, green grass and sparkling blue water are a captivating site. It was a perfect location to capture portraits.

When I first arrived I was assured that the little girl would be the easiest one to photograph and I quickly saw what they meant. She was irresistible. Her smile and laugh had me clicking the shutter almost faster than my camera could keep up.

Donna is home now but she just called me yesterday to say that she just received her photos she ordered through her online photo album. She was thrilled with how how quickly her photo order arrived and the quality and sharpness of the prints.

Hope Town, Abaco Family Portraits | Children on Vacation

A surprising fact about being a photographer in paradise, is that many of my clients are photographers themselves.  At first I found it odd when photographers began requesting my services. You'd think that someone who knows how to take great photos and owns all of the needed equipment would just do it themselves, right?

It turns out that photographers have a hard time taking portraits of themselves enjoying their vacation with their family. Putting your camera on a tripod with a remote isn't very easy with young children on the beach. Photographers also know the value of getting family portraits done.

Carrie, a photographer from Colorado, was no different. She first got in touch with me before Christmas. Planning to visit The Abacos in The Bahamas in Feburary, she knew that she wanted me to take photos of her and her two little girls. We chose Hopetown, a small village on Elbow Cay, Abaco as our portrait location. It couldn't have been a better choice. The brightly colored houses,  candy striped light house and gorgeous white sandy beach were a perfect back drop for portraits.

It was so much fun to watch the girls explore the beach and play in the water. It was obvious they both loved the ocean! It was also obvious that Carrie enjoyed the freedom of being on the other side of the lens for once.

Carrie also wrote a blog post on her vacation adventures to The Bahamas if you wanted to check it out.

Nassau, Bahamas Videographer - Aerial Video & Extreme Sports - Driven by Wind

Despite what many people think, living on a tropical island can become routine, just like living anywhere else in the world.  Although you can be surrounded by gorgeous caribbean waters, life happens, and you never seem to have enough time to enjoy where you live.  To ensure this didn't happen to me, last year I made a promise to dedicate more time to my passions, wind sports and filmmaking. These pursuits were the driving force behind the creation of the short video below. I wanted to capture some of the natural beauty The Bahamas has to offer from a slightly different perspective...the air... and being powered by it. Enjoy.
